Malaysian Minister of Housing and Local Government Nga Kor Ming’s car was caught following an ambulance when the road was congested. Here’s the minister’s explanation.
The Toyota Vellfire driven by the Minister of Housing and Local Government of Malaysia, Nga Kor Ming, caused a stir among netizens in the neighboring country. The premium MPV with ‘minister’ plates was caught following an ambulance when the road was completely jammed.
“There was an incident from Simpang Pulai to Tapah (which caused) traffic jams. It took 6 hours to get to Tapah from Simpang Pulai. Worse yet, there was a minister’s car following the ambulance as if they were in an emergency,” wrote netizen on X which then went viral.
Several days later, Nga Kor Ming clarified this action. In his Facebook account, Nga Kor Ming revealed the reason his car was able to follow the ambulance when the road was congested. The following is clarification from Nga Kor Ming.
1. I received information about media reports regarding the incident where my official car followed an ambulance on February 3 2024 on Jalan Raya PLUS. Based on media reports, this incident occurred when there was a traffic accident involving seven vehicles, resulting in a traffic jam
2. For your information, this happened when I was on my way to attend an official event in Ipoh, the driver of my vehicle realized that there was an ambulance following my vehicle to the accident location. Therefore, to prioritize rescue efforts, my driver gave way to the ambulance
3. Due to the busy road conditions, my driver had to follow the ambulance to continue the journey to Ipoh
4. I would like to emphasize that I never intended to break the law and always prioritize rescue efforts as determined by law
5. I have instructed my employees to cooperate with the authorities and am ready to pay a fine if my driver is found guilty
6. All difficulties are unintentional and very regrettable
On a separate occasion, Malaysian Transport Minister Anthony Loke was reluctant to respond to the minister’s Vellfire action of following the ambulance. Even when asked whether the VIP car was allowed to follow the ambulance, Loke said there would be further explanation.
“We will discuss this later. We have bigger and more important problems than that and an explanation will be given,” Loke was quoted as saying Malaymail.
