Sports Editorial, Oct 11 (EFE).- The National Football League (NFL) reported this Friday that medical leaders from the English Premier League, Premiership Rugby, World Rugby, among other sports organizations, met at the United Kingdom Medical Conference 2024 to collaborate and discuss the latest advances in sports medicine and head injury reduction.

Specialists from the English Cricket Board, Football Association, Rugby Football League, Rugby Football Union and, of course, the NFL also participated in this meeting.

“The opportunity to share research and experience with medical leaders from other professional sports leagues is an important way to ensure that players and athletes in the NFL and all sports receive the best possible care,” said Dr. Allen Sills, chief medical officer. of the NFL.

During the event, sports medicine professionals, scientists and people involved in the care of athletes spoke about injury detection and concussion reduction strategies, head care, cardiac events, emergency preparedness, among other topics.

“It is up to us as sports leagues to find every opportunity to improve the work we do to make our games safer and meetings like these are a great example of that commitment,” added Dr. Sills.

An exchange of information that Professor Eanna Falvey, medical director of World Rugby, an institution founded in 1886 that governs all rugby federations internationally, said is essential to making sports safer for athletes at all levels.

World Rugby’s collaboration with the NFL and other leagues on player welfare is delivering tangible results for athletes in rugby, American football and other sports.

We hope to maintain it ahead of the Men’s Rugby World Cup 2031 and Women’s Rugby World Cup 2033 in the United States,” said Eanna Falvey.

Something that Dr. Matt Cross, director of science and medical operations for Premiership Rugby, the highest official rugby club competition in England, agreed with.

“Premiership Rugby is delighted to continue collaborating with the NFL and other major sporting organizations to strengthen our commitment to player safety,” said Dr Cross.

This meeting took place in advance of the duel in week 6 of the NFL season between the Bears and the Jaguars, which will take place next Sunday at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London. EFE
