Big bankruptcy for the New York Jets. Head coach Robert Saleh’s team lost 3:19 to the Jacksonville Jaguars early in NFL game day 16 at home’s MetLife Stadium.
After an early field goal by Jets kicker Greg Zuerlein, the hosts were no longer able to get their offense to work properly. Quarterback Zach Wilson, who recently had to sit on the bench, was delivered again. He was replaced by backup Chris Streveler, who put in a strong performance but failed to score points.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are completely different. Playmaker Trevor Lawrence consistently led his team on the court, putting them in field goal position time and time again. Jags kicker Riley Patterson struck out four and was instrumental in his team’s victory.
Bengals advance to playoffs
The only touchdown of the game was provided by quarterback Lawrence himself, who leapt from a yard into the end zone early in the second quarter.
Overall, the 23-year-old completed 20 of 31 passes for 229 yards. Zach Wilson recorded nine of 18 passes for just 92 yards and one interception before being forced to flee. Backup Streveler had ten passes and 90 yards.
The Jets suffered a significant setback in the playoff battle, being only the third remaining team with seven wins and eight losses in the AFC. The Jacksonville Jaguars, however, moved into second place with the same record.
FYI: The Cincinnati Bengals may have the biggest reason to celebrate. The Jets’ bankruptcy saw the team automatically advance to the playoffs as the third largest franchise in the AFC.
