The Titans had already eliminated defending champion New England Patriots around quarterback icon Tom Brady in the first knockout round and now also ended the hopes of the Ravens unexpectedly early.
Baltimore’s shooting star Lamar Jackson, the predestined MVP, had a disappointing evening. The 23-year-old made three turnovers (two interceptions, one fumble) and was rarely able to develop his talent. Jackson came in at over 500 scrimmage yards (365 passing, 143 rushing), but the Ravens rarely finished the drives. The outstanding Titans defense held a total of four times on the fourth attempt and thus took over the ball on the offensive.
At Tennessee running back Derrick Henry was once again the man of the game. The 26-year-old ran for 195 yards and also prepared a touchdown on a trick play with a short pass. Henry became the first player in NFL history to run over 180 yards in three consecutive games. Quarterback Ryan Tannehill (31) set the course for the Titans early with two touchdown passes, one of which was a spectacular 45-yard ball on receiver Caliph Raymond, to lead the Titans 14-0 – and still ended the evening with a remarkable 88 Passing yards.
Premiere since 2010
Once the playmaker and Marcus Mariota displacer, who came from the Miami Dolphins before the season, deceived who still ate $ 18.5 million “Cap Space” at the Fins (only $ 1.85 million at the Titans ), but shortly before the end zone also a shuffle pass to Henry – only to then dive to the finish himself. It was the second successful trick that evening – and at the same time another fundamental building block on the way to the surprise victory with which Tennessee made it into a conference final as the first Number 6 seed since 2010.
In the first Divisional Round game, the San Francisco 49ers won against the Minnesota Vikings by 27:10.
The NFL semifinals will be played this weekend. The Super Bowl will take place in Miami on February 2nd.
