USA. – Jeff Miller, executive vice president of the National Football League (NFL), said Wednesday that concussions suffered by players in training camps decreased by 52 percent, thanks to the ‘Guardian Caps’ (padded covers over helmets ).
“We started last year with the use of ‘Guardian Caps’ at offensive line, defense, linebackers and tight ends until the second preseason game on a mandatory basis, since then and compared to an average of three years ago we saw a decrease of 52 percent in concussions,” Miller said.
This padded cover is worn over the helmet and was implemented since training for the 2022 season with the aim of reducing concussions, this year it was also used by runners and receivers.
Concussions have been one of the main problems that the national football league has had since its inception.

There have even been different documentaries and campaigns against this sport, even a Hollywood movie starring Will Smith about these blows that affect the players’ brains.
The NFL acknowledged last May that concussions were up in the 2022 season compared to 2021.
There were 149 concussions in 271 games, 18 percent more than the 2021 campaign, which had 126; 14 percent more than the average of 130 that were counted between 2018 and 2020.
