NFL Rumors: Seahawks Have Taken First Step To Mend Relationship With Bobby Wagner

A year after he was released, Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider revealed that he had conversations with linebacker Bobby Wagner.

The Seattle Seahawks shocked the NFL world last season by entering the playoffs with a 9-8 record when they were expected to be one of the worst teams in the league.

The team has already started its offseason, signing quarterback Geno Smith to a three-year, $105 million deal before the start of the new league year.

Now, it’s time to build to make another playoff run.

Could they bring back a longtime face of the franchise for another run?

During an appearance on Seattle Sports 710 AM, Seahawks general manager John Schneider said that he and head coach Pete Carroll recently had talks with former star linebacker Bobby Wagner.

“We’ve been able to (talk to him) now, so (head coach Pete Carroll) and I were able to talk to him the other day, and we had an amazing, great, candid conversation, so he knows where we are. and we know where he is,” Schneider said, h/t deportes de Seattle 710 a. m.. “We have a lot of respect for him personally and professionally, so we were able to talk about a few things and yeah, we know where he’s going.”

These comments from Schneider come after a March 1 Tacoma News Tribune report revealed that the Seahawks were interested in meeting with Wagner.

The Seahawks used their 2012 second-round pick on Wagner, who played football at Utah State. Wagner was one of Schneider’s top draft picks since he took over as general manager in 2010. The middle linebacker was named to the Pro Bowl eight times, first-team All-Pro six times and second-team All-Pro twice during his time in Seattle. Not to mention, he was the leading tackler in the NFL in the 2016 and 2019 seasons. Wagner also played a role.

But after the 2021 season, the Seahawks released Wagner from his contract. said the linebacker the team never told him of their plans to cut it. That offseason, Wagner signed a five-year, $50 million contract with the Los Angeles Rams, who were coming off winning Super Bowl 56.

Wagner played in all 17 games for the Rams, recording 140 combined tackles (81 solo, 59 assisted), 10 quarterback hits, six sacks, five pass defensed, and two interceptions.

The Rams finished the year with a 5-12 mark. After the season, reports indicated that the Rams were planning to release Wagner.

Seahawks fans will now wait and wonder if Schneider can get Wagner back in Seattle. It would be quite a story if Wagner returned to the team that drafted him a year after the team’s release from him.
