Horror injury in the NFL.
But not on the field.
In Sunday’s game between the New Orleans Saints and the Detroit Lions, a referee broke his leg.
The second quarter was not even two minutes old when the accident happened.
The New Orleans Saints ran a running play where quarterback Derek Carr handed off the ball to running back Alvin Kamara who tried to break through the defensive line before being tackled over the sideline.
He fell into an assistant referee who had to take a good hit.
Screamed with pain
The referee caught Kamara over one leg and fell to the ground in pain. When the TV camera zoomed in on him, his left leg was facing the wrong way. Definitely broken.
Play was briefly interrupted while the referee was carried out on a stretcher, but was soon able to resume.
The visiting Detroit Lions won the game 33–28. The team leads its NFC North division with a record of nine wins and three losses.
The New Orleans Saints are third in the NFC South with seven wins and seven losses.
