NFL Postpones Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Buffalo Bills Super Wild Card Round Match Due to Inclement Weather

The NFL, together with the governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, announced that the match between Pittsburgh Steelers and Buffalo Bills, corresponding to the Super Wild Card Round, has been postponed due to inclement weather in the Buffalo area.

The decision came after conversations with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, emergency response teams, Bills management and the NFL.

A winter storm warning is in effect for the Buffalo area and surrounding counties, including Erie County, which is home to Orchard Park Stadium, New York. According to AccuWeather, more than a foot of snow (and up to three feet) is expected in the Buffalo area, and with winds potentially up to 65 mph.

The game between the Steelers and the Bills has been rescheduled to take place this Monday, January 15 at 4:30 pm, also in Eastern time.

The Buffalo Bills even called on their fans to help remove the ice that was present on the Highmark Stadium field, offering them $20 per hour for work, as well as food.

According to weather forecasts, there will be 75% snowfall during the game tomorrow, as well as sustained winds of 25 mph and gusts up to 45 mph.

In addition to that, temperatures around 6 degrees below zero are expected, which would undoubtedly have affected the Wild Card game between the Steelers and Bills.

It must be remembered that the NFL does not reschedule games due to cold, but it does reschedule due to conditions that could endanger players, assistants and workers.; just as it happened, where a snow storm will affect much of the northern United States.

With this schedule change, the next winner-take-all matchup between the Bills and Steelers is expected to be played on Sunday instead of Saturday.

The last time a playoff game was changed due to bad weather, the Pittsburgh Steelers were also involved. In the 2016 season they faced the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium and the kickoff moved from the 1:00 p.m. window to 8:20 p.m. ET.
