Roger Goodell, commissioner of the NFL, reported this Sunday that for the 2025 season hopes the league will have a game in Mexico Cityas well as seven more meetings outside the United States with destinations that will include Brazil, apart from Spain -at the Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid, announced last February-.
“As we had already said, we are going to Spain and we hope to return to Mexico City and Brazil.we will surely be back in the UK. We consider the possibility of playing in Ireland and we will surely be back here in Germany,” said the commissioner minutes before the duel between the Carolina Panthers and the New York Giants, which is being played at the Alianz Arena in Munich.–
It will be the first time in history that the NFL moves up to eight regular season games outside the United States. Until this season the maximum number of matches was five.
The most recent game played in Mexico was in the 2022 season, when the San Francisco 49ers beat the Arizona Cardinals 38-10 at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, a venue that due to renovations with a view to the 2026 World Cup will not be held. has been able to host another NFL game.
Goodell pointed out that the five games outside the United States were a success, especially the one held in week 1 between the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers that was played at the Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, which was the first NFL game in South America. .
“It’s been better than wonderful. Starting in Brazil was fantastic, São Paulo was something new for us and they couldn’t have done better, the teams had a great time. Afterwards, the London series was extraordinary as always. And now we have this great way to finish here in Munich; I’m already looking forward to next year,” said the commissioner.
Since last February the NFL announced that in the 2025 campaign it will play a regular season game at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, it will be the first in Spain.
This season, in addition to Brazil, three games were played in London, two of them were held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, New York Jets-Minnesota Vikings, in week 5, and Chicago Bears-Jacksonville Jaguars, in week 6; and New England Patriots-Jaguars met in week 7 at Wembley Stadium.
The last stop of the series was the Allianz Arena in Munich with the duel between Giants and Panthers.
