A controversial decision against the Minnesota Vikings in the game against the Los Angeles Rams (20:30) now that could result in a rule change. This will be discussed in the offseason.
With a safety late in the fourth quarter, pass rusher Byron Young topped the Minnesota Vikings and sealed a 30-20 win for the Los Angeles Rams.
The problem: The youngster violently pulled on Sam Darnold‘s Vikings face mask.
The referees disregarded this fake play. Instead of the first one for the Vikings and a 15-yard penalty against the Rams, Los Angeles marked the sack in the end zone.
Face Mask against Darnold could lead to a rule change
A move that could have long-term consequences: As “Pro Football Talk” reports, the “Competition Committee” will likely discuss in the offseason whether arbitrators can video review of face mask penalties.
“Pro Football Talk” refers to a conversation with NFL communications chairman Brian McCarthy.
“Every year there is a debate about which plays should be reviewed by the video referee and which should not. Teams could propose a rule change here. In terms of face mask penalties, I think that could be a problem,” McCarthy says.
