Our German NFL star Jakob Johnson (27) has found his new team!
As US media reports, the German fullback will join the Las Vegas Raiders. Accordingly, he gets a one-year contract there.
Johnson made the jump to the New England Patriots roster in 2019 through the International Pathway Program, which aims to increase the number of non-American players in the NFL.
Last season he completed 323 snaps, in 2020 it was 374 plays on offense. In addition, he was often on the field for kickoff and punting. Overall, he made 19 games for the Patriots.
In 2020, he caught his first touchdown in the NFL in a game against the Seattle Seahawks.
The man from Stuttgart meets his former offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels with the Raiders, who will train the team in Las Vegas from the coming season.
The Patriots decided against a contract extension, so the way to the Raiders was clear. There, regular fullback Alec Ingold left the franchise for Miami.
This cleared the way for Johnson to go to Las Vegas and the two transfers were announced within minutes of each other.
According to US media, he will be able to collect around 1.5 million dollars there for the season. That’s roughly double what he earned with the Patriots.
