The New York Giants (5-7) catch the Seattle Seahawks (8-4) on the wrong foot! They take an unexpected 17:12 away win at the other end of the United States.
In the absence of Daniel Jones, replacement Colt McCoy cannot shine, but still lead the team to their fourth win en suite. Despite the negative record, a step towards the playoffs, the Giants are currently leading the weak NFC East. Washington can theoretically draw level, but would have to win at the unbeaten Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday.
With the Seahawks, the situation is reversed: In NFC West they have to accept that the Los Angeles Rams (8-4) draw level. They decide the division-internal duel at the Arizona Cardinals (6-6) with 38:28. The “cards” slide out of the playoff picture for the time being.
Defending champion solves playoff ticket
The Kansas City Chiefs (11-1) win the AFC West duel against the Denver Broncos (4-8) 22:16. The defending champion is the second team to secure the playoff ticket after the New Orlean Saints.
The Broncos lead until just before the end of the third quarter 16:12, but it is not enough to inflict the second defeat on the surprisingly weak Chiefs.
Patrick Mahomes finds Travis Kelce in the closing stages of the third quarter with a TD pass over 20 yards. Harrison Butker ensures the final decision with a minute left on the clock with a 48-yard field goal at 10:16 pm.
This means that the Chiefs Division leaders Pittsburgh (11-0) remain on their heels in the battle for the top seed.
Packers say thank you, Pats can do it
With the victory over the Seahawks, the Giants also give the Green Bay Packers (9-3) support, who now take second place in the NFC. They thank you immediately with a 30:16 over the Philadelphia Eagles (3-8-1), who keep the New Yorkers off their feet in the NFC East.
Aaron Rodgers throws, among other things, his 400th career touchdown. Just six quarterbacks ahead of him, these sounders broke: Drew Brees, Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Dan Marino, Brett Favre and Philip Rivers.
At the Eagles, Carson Wentz will be replaced by Jalen Hurts in the closing stages – maybe even for good. The substitute keeps the game open at times.
The playoff chances of the New England Patriots (6-6) are comparatively low, but with a 45-0 victory at the Los Angeles Chargers (3-9) Cam Newton and Co. prove that they can do it.
Newton himself has to contribute comparatively little with only 69 passing yards and a touchdown over the air, by rushing he adds two more TDs. Even backup Jarrett Stidham is allowed to throw a TD.
