NFL: Eagles miss playoffs, NFC decisions in showdown – sports mix

NFL Week 16 brings no decisions in the open playoff questions of the NFC, but a lot of tension for the last weekend of the regular season.

The Los Angeles Rams (9-6) lose to the Seattle Seahawks (11-4) 9:20 and fail to book the playoff ticket, while Seattle is the winner of the NFC West and in the wild card round plays at home, furthermore that should be necessary at all.

The fight for the last two wild card places will be decided in a long-distance duel between the Rams (9-6), the Arizona Cardinals and the Chicago Bears (8-7 each), with the Rams and the Cardinals facing each other in a direct duel.

Arizona needs a win in Los Angeles to slide into the postseason – the Rams are also involved in their own success. Should the Rams lose, they must hope for a Bears defeat against the Green Bay Packers. Conversely, the Bears needn’t win this game if the Rams beat Arizona.

With the success, Seattle still secures the chance to complete the NFC as number 1 and thus to skip the wild card round and to bag the home rights for the two possible playoff games. The opponents in the long-distance duel for this status: Again Green Bay and the New Orleans Saints.

Who will win the NFC East?

In the weakest division of the NFL, the NFC East, only one thing is certain: The Philadelphia Eagles (4-10-1) do not make it into the playoffs. They lose 17:37 at the Dallas Cowboys (6-9), giving up a 14: 3 lead.

Because the Washington Football Team (6-9) is also defeated by the Carolina Panthers (5-10) 13:20, there is a last-minute decision about the division’s playoff ticket, which the winner gets regardless of his negative record.

If Washington wins the Eagles, the football team is ahead. Otherwise, the postseason participation goes to the winner of the direct duel New York Giants (5-10) against Dallas Cowboys.

Herbert sets rookie record

The Los Angeles Chargers (6-9) win a meaningless duel in the AFC West against the Denver Broncos (5-10) 19:16, whereby the close game has its entertainment value especially in the finish.

With his 28th touchdown this season, Chargers-QB Justin Herbert sets a new NFL record for rookies. So far, Baker Mayfield held this at 27. He also makes himself the first third quarterback of the Chargers, who succeeds in at least one season with more than 4000 passing yards.
