NFL Draft 2024: Adam Schefter Predicts Quarterback-Heavy First Round

The NFL Draft is always an exciting time for football fans, and this year’s draft is shaping up to be no different. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, we could see a quarterback-heavy first round, with as many as six quarterbacks being taken off the board.

During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Schefter shared his insights on the upcoming draft. “There are a lot of different opinions and a lot of different quarterbacks in this draft,” he said. “It certainly sounds like we could get up to six quarterbacks taken in round one. Certainly five, that could happen.”

While some quarterbacks are considered locks to be first-round picks, such as USC’s Caleb Williams, LSU’s Jayden Daniels, and North Carolina’s Drake Maye, Schefter believes there could be surprises. He mentioned Oregon’s Bo Nix as a potential candidate to sneak into the first round. “There are people that are huge Jayden Daniels fans, there are people that are huge Bo Nix fans,” Schefter explained. “So we’ll see how that shakes out.”

Bleacher Report’s Mock Draft already projects Williams to go first overall to the Chicago Bears, with Maye and Daniels following closely behind to the Washington Commanders and New England Patriots, respectively. However, Nix, along with Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy and Washington’s Michael Penix Jr., could also be in the running for a first-round selection, depending on how the quarterback market unfolds in free agency.

Speaking of free agency, several quarterbacks are set to hit the market this offseason, including Minnesota Vikings’ Kirk Cousins. Schefter pointed out that Cousins’ decision could have an impact on the number of quarterbacks taken in the first round. “I think the two primary suitors for Kirk Cousins, I would expect to be Minnesota and Atlanta,” Schefter revealed. “There’s only one Kirk Cousins, so he goes somewhere, what does the other team do? If he goes to Atlanta, I wouldn’t be surprised if Minnesota tried to move up in the draft and try to make a play for a quarterback.”

With so much talent available in this year’s draft class, it’s no wonder that the first round is expected to be dominated by quarterbacks. Teams are always on the lookout for their franchise signal-caller, and this draft presents them with a golden opportunity to secure their future.

As the draft approaches, football fans eagerly await the unveiling of each team’s picks. Will there be a quarterback frenzy in the first round? Only time will tell. But one thing is for sure, the 2024 NFL Draft is shaping up to be an eventful and quarterback-centric affair.
