Los New York Giants reached an agreement four years and with a value of 160 million dollars to keep the quarterback in the Big Apple daniel joneswhile they applied the franchise gamer tag not exclusive to the stellar runner Saquon Barkley.
The ‘Big Blue’ negotiations came only minutes before the limit to apply the franchise tag to one player from each team, so the deal with Jones was what allowed the benefit to be used on Barkley.
The treatment of Jones is one that makes it just the ninth quarterback to surpass the $40 million per year mark in the NFL.
After the season I said I love this place. I have enjoyed my time here and I want to be here. I have great respect for this organization, the Maras (family that owns the team), the Tischs (team president), my coaches and teammates. I am happy to have reached an agreement.
For its part, the agreement with Barkley will keep it, for now, with the Giants for 2023since the non-exclusive franchise label states that the broker can still sign with another team to receive an offer, in exchange for two first-round picksand as long as New York is not willing to match it.
So much Jones as Barkley were the keys for the Giants they will return to the postseason for the first time in 11 yearsthe last being his victory in the Super Bowl XLVI still under the command of the retired Eli Manning.
The top two priorities of New Yorkers entering the offseason were, first keep quarterbackand as second keep barkleyboth points achieved at least by the campaign 2023-24 where they will seek to repeat a solidity campaign until the knockout phase.
