On Sunday the NFL will be visiting Germany for the second time. Two title candidates, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Miami Dolphins, are competing in Frankfurt. With the top game, the foreign marketing of the US professional league, which generates billions in sales, reaches a new peak. The rush for around 50,000 tickets was huge; the Frankfurt Arena could have been filled x times.
A year ago at the premiere in Munich, the now retired superstar Tom Brady caused a lot of excitement. Now the eyes are primarily on Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the sport’s figurehead. “The atmosphere in the stadium will be great,” says the quarterback, and he “at least heard that from the guys who have already played in Germany.”
It’s noisy ESPN Because of the pairing, this is perhaps the biggest international game in the history of the NFL. In terms of sport, it should be spectacular. Both teams started the season with 6 wins from 8 games. Both the Chiefs and the Dolphins stand for explosive attacking play; Miami, for example, scored 70 (!) points in the third game of the season.
Hill against his old colleagues
In addition to Mahomes, there are several other stars of the scene in Frankfurt. For example, wide receiver Tyreek Hill, the star of the Dolphins offense. The 29-year-old, who won the Super Bowl with the Chiefs three years ago, will be seeing his old colleagues again for the first time after moving to the south of the USA. Hill, nicknamed “Cheetah” because of his enormous speed, has just set a record: He became the first NFL professional to record more than 1,000 receiving yards in the first eight games of the season.
International games are also met with dissatisfaction
Fans in the core market of the USA hardly like the fact that such high-profile games are taking place overseas. When the game starts, which starts at 3:30 p.m. in this country, it is 8:30 a.m. in Kansas City and 9:30 a.m. in Miami. The NFL accepts the trouble and consistently continues on its path. It has continuously increased the number of games on European soil in recent years – and discussions have already taken place about holding the Super Bowl in London, according to Commissioner Roger Goodell.
