Neymar’s extravagance probably doesn’t cost the Brazilian football star dearly after all. Because the 32-year-old had created an artificial lake on his property near Rio de Janeiro, he was fined three million dollars by the city’s environmental authority – but this has now been suspended.
In her ruling on Monday, obtained by AFP, the head of a Brazilian court cited a report by the state environmental agency INEA, which showed that no special environmental permit was required for the project.

About 130 kilometers from Rio, in the tourist town of Mangaratiba, Neymar owns a huge property where he likes to spend his holidays. It has, among other things, volleyball and tennis courts as well as a go-kart track.
According to information from the Spanish “Marca”, significant interventions were made in nature to create the body of water. It was necessary to remove a rock, cut down some of the vegetation and divert a river. (sid/fs)
