Reports recently circulated from Saudi Arabia that Al-Hilal was terminating the contract with Neymar (31) after just six months. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano declares this to be fake news and explains what is behind the rumors.

Al-Hilal paid Paris Saint-Germain 90 million euros in the summer to secure the services of superstar Neymar. Since then, however, the transfer has only paid off moderately. In five games he scored one goal and added three more goals. The Brazilian has been out since mid-October with a torn cruciate ligament and will probably be out for the rest of the season.

Rumors from Saudi Arabia recently made the rounds that Al-Hilal had terminated the contract with the Brazilian just six months after the sensational transfer and that Neymar would therefore be available as a professional without a club. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano is now declaring these reports to be fake rumors and explains the rumors as follows.

Neymar makes way for Renan Lodi

The reigning leaders of the Saudi Pro League only removed Neymar from the squad list, but did not terminate his contract. The reason is simple: space had to be made in order to be able to register winter newcomer Renan Lodi. Saudi Arabia has rules that only eight foreign players can be registered.

Since Neymar probably won’t play any more games of the season anyway, Brazil’s record international player simply had to make room in the squad. Lodi moved to the desert state from Olympique Marseille for 23 million euros and is expected to strengthen the defense of the club coached by Jorge Jesus. Lodi has signed a contract until 2027.

Neymar returns to the squad after injury

This means that Al-Hilal fans can continue to look forward to Neymar’s appearances in their club’s jersey. The 31-year-old’s contract runs until 2025 and also includes a one-year option. According to Romano, he will return to the Al-Hilal squad after his injury.
