He is one of the most talented dribblers of all time – and yet opinions differ on him: PSG superstar Neymar is in the headlines again, the reason this time is another injury. Looking at that Round of 16 of the Champions League against FC Bayern Munich (live on DAZN) this is of course particularly bitter.

Neymar da Silva Santos Junior is currently the most expensive player in the world – the exceptional Brazilian striker has been playing for PSG (Paris Saint-Germain) for six years now. Despite strong statistics with the French series champions (118 goals in 173 competitive games), the Brazilian has been criticized for a variety of reasons.

Tax evasion and an allegation of rape expand the media interest in the superstar outside of the sport – but even here the winger is not untouchable. Excessive theatrics, egocentric style of play, lack of team success and, last but not least, the numerous injuries also make PSG fans question the management of their favorite club.

Is it justified to pay a princely salary to a player who has missed 100 games since arriving at PSG solely due to injuries? In this article we take a closer look at Neymar’s injuries – although this is not the first time that Neymar has been out of action.

Neymar has already missed 100 games during his time at PSG due to injury – and that’s not all! There are 19 more games due to various suspensions, whether yellow or red.

119 games, that’s three seasons with 38 league games a year, as is the case in Ligue 1! Neymar missed that in six years. Let’s take a closer look at these injuries. It was often the same injury.

Champions League: PSG superstar Neymar again in bad luck with injuries!

Neymar is currently out with an ankle injury that has kept him out of action since the Lille game on February 19. Shortly before the CL round of 16 at FC Bayern Munich, the news came: This season there will be no more Neymar on the pitch.

Because the attacker in recent years repeatedly with ankle injuries was struggling, Neymar, the doctors and those in charge decided to have an operation, which means that Neymar will be out for three to four months.

In four years, Neymar “only” missed 29 games here – although he already struggled here with his nemesis (his own ankle): in January and February 2014 Neymar missed due to one ankle injury ten games for the first time. From November 2021 to February 2022 he missed twelve games because of this, and now it will be at least 15!

The ankle isn’t the only recurring problem: Neymar suffered right away two metatarsal fractures in spring 2018 and spring 2019, who neutralized him for 16 and 18 games. Attentive readers will already have noticed something: is it possible that Neymar often suffers the injuries at the same time?
