Rio de Janeiro: Brazilian footballer Neymar has been fined Rs 27 crore for building an artificial lake at his residence without an environmental permit. A bungalow in Mangaratiba, a suburb of the Brazilian capital Rio de Janeiro, was fined by the town council for building a lake. Mangaratiba is a tourist area 130 km from Rio. Environmental protection regulations are strict here. The town council said in a statement that illegal activities such as blocking and diverting river water, removing soil without permission and destroying plants were found in Neymar’s bungalow. Neymar has 20 days to appeal the fine. The fine was originally set at $1 million. Later, after further investigation, the fine was increased.
In 2016, Neymar bought a bungalow in Mangaratiba. Its construction is 107,000 square feet. The bungalow has a helipad, spa and gym.
