Brazil’s bid to host America’s Cup 2021 apparently got resistance. Precisely the star players who do not agree with that. Why?
Brazil was appointed as the host after Argentina and Colombia withdrew for different reasons. Colombia was stripped of its hosting rights due to the domestic political crisis.
Meanwhile, Argentina withdrew because the government focused on handling COVID-19 cases, which were at a high level there. Brazil is also preparing to hold the tournament from June 13 to July 11.
However, the appointment of Brazil is not without its pros and cons. Because Brazil itself is still busy dealing with coronavirus pandemic which is still high today.
They are the top five countries with the highest coronavirus cases in the world and a death rate of 470,000 people. It is estimated that the third wave of the pandemic will emerge no later than this month.
Therefore, the Brazilian star players reportedly strongly rejected the appointment of their country as the host America Cup. Casemiro et al. even directly met the president of the Brazilian Football Federation Rogerio Caboclo to discuss this.
“They certainly have their own opinion, they tell it to the president and they will announce it at the right time. That’s why team captain Casemiro is absent today,” Tite said when asked if his players asked to miss the Copa America.
However, Tite made sure the focus of his players now is on the two games 2022 World Cup Qualification against Ecuador and Paraguay. Victory is the target of the Selecao in order to pave the way to the finals in Qatar.
Brazil is still in the top position with 12 points from four matches.
“We ask the players to just focus on the match against Ecuador. We have priorities now, to play well and beat Ecuador. We understand that after these two games, the situation can be clearer,” he continued.
“It’s not that I don’t want to answer but I’m telling the facts as we know them. America Cup very important indeed. But tomorrow’s game is more important,” he concluded ESPN.
