Next year the ferry Sporenburg-Sluisbuurt will arrive: “There goes our rest”

From the Eastern Docklands to Zeeburgereiland? From the summer of 2022 you no longer have to cycle via the Amsterdamsebrug. The Sluisbuurt, currently under construction, will be connected to Sporenburg, one of the islands in the Eastern Docklands, via a new ferry.

The temporary ferry connection will run up and down for seven years, after which a final decision will be made. The municipality investigated eight different locations for the ferry to dock and yesterday the Municipal Executive decided that Sluisbuurt – Kop Sporenburg is the most suitable variant.

Many residents of Sporenburg are disappointed with the decision. “We are here at the end of the island,” says a local resident. “It is super quiet here. That will soon change if this becomes a main road to the ferry.”

Another resident is also disappointed: “There is a lot of paddle-boarding, canoeing and sailing here. If a ferry comes soon, you will kill it.”

The Sluisbuurt will soon provide housing for more than 12,000 people. For cycling Zeeburg, the only connection to the center is currently the Amsterdamsebrug.

In addition to the concerns about safety, there are also positive noises in the neighborhood: “I actually think it’s cool,” says a local resident. “Now you have to cycle very often and later you can go directly to the other side.”
