The Liepāja Symphony Orchestra has been holding regular concerts at Rundale Palace for more than ten years, creating unrepeatable musical delights for music lovers in this pearl of baroque architecture. The majestic interior of the palace and the acoustics of the White Hall create a special atmosphere that allows you to enjoy the full beauty of classical music.
In the concert on April 5, Lithuanian conductor Modestas Barkauskas will lead the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra through two great works of the classical era: Joseph Haydn’s Second Concerto for Cello and Orchestra and Symphony No. 40 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, which is one of the most popular. pieces of classical music that are known and loved by all time. This symphony, composed in 1788, is Mozart’s true masterpiece – it combines deep emotion, drama and the incredible beauty of melodies.
Along with it, Joseph Haydn’s Second Concerto for Cello and Orchestra, written around 1783, is one of the first cello concertos to achieve widespread acclaim and inspired generations of composers after it, became one of the most popular cello concerts in the classical music repertoire. . In this concert, the cello takes part not only as a soloist, but also as a storyteller, showing a wide range of emotions – from lyrical emotion to the joy of energetic life.
The musical richness and technical clarity of the cello concerto will be revealed in this concert with the Liepāja Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Modest Barkauskas with the young and promising Polish cellist Krzysztof Michalski, who has won several international competitions in the last 3 years, such as the International Johansen Competition in the USA, the Zoltán Kodály Competition in Hungary, the David Gering Competition in Lithuania and the Cello Competition Brussels in Belgium. As a soloist, he has performed with symphonies and chamber orchestras in Poland, Germany, Hungary, Belgium, Lithuania and Colombia.
Highlighting the wider landscape of classical music and how it has developed, the concert program will be complemented by compositions by Italian composer Luigi Boccherini and Czech composer Johan Štámić.
