Next week, on May 12, 13 and 14, three string instrument master classes will take place on the Facebook page of Riga Jurmala Academy, led by world-renowned musicians – Chicago Symphony Orchestra violin group concertmaster Robert Chen, leading cellist John Sharp and one of the brightest 21st Century Cellists by Gottie Capillon (pictured).

According to the organizers, students of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music and students of the Emīls Dārziņš Music High School will take part in the master classes, which can be watched live by anyone interested.

A master class with Robert Chen, an experienced violinist of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, who is also an avid solo musician and performer with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, the Swedish Radio Orchestra and others, the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, will take place on Wednesday, May 12 from 5 to 8 p.m. Born in Taiwan, Chen began his violin studies at the age of seven. Prior to joining the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Chen won first place at the Hanover International Violin Competition.

On Thursday, May 13, from 5 to 8 p.m., follow a cello master class with John Sharp, who has had the honor of becoming the youngest leading musician in the history of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Born in Texas, Sharp studied cello with Lev Aronson and later with Lin Harel at the Juliard School, where he earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Prior to joining the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, he was a member of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and a leading cellist of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. Sharp has been a winner of the Moscow International Tchaikovsky Competition.

A master class with Gottie Capison, one of the brightest cellists of the 21st century, who plays a lot with the world’s leading conductors and instrumentalists and is the founder and director of the Cello Playing Class of Excellence at the Louis Whiton Foundation in Paris, is scheduled for Friday, May 14 from 3 to 6 p.m. . Gottie Capillon has won many awards and critical acclaim for his expressive musicianship, outstanding virtuosity, and the extremely deep, saturated sound of his instrument, the 1701 cello of Mateo Gofrije.
