Next week first fair in Moergestel

In the Brabant village of Moergestel, the first fair of this season will start in the Netherlands in exactly one week. The fair lasts from July 3 to 7.

“The knot has been cut. Solutions for all the problems we still face are invented,” says Mayor Hans Janssen at Broadcasting Brabant.

For a long time it looked like there would be no fairs at all this year because of the corona measures. On June 11, about a thousand fairground operators demonstrated on the Malieveld in The Hague. They did not understand why amusement parks could open, but they were not allowed to build their attractions.

Enough space

Due to the relaxation that Prime Minister Rutte announced on Wednesday, small fairs are allowed again. The advantage of Moergestel is that Sint Jansplein in the center of the village offers enough space to keep one and a half meters apart, says Mayor Janssen.

Details have yet to be worked out. For example, it is not yet known how many attractions will come. The municipality does not exclude that the fair will extend over a larger part of the center of Moergestel than just Sint Jansplein.

Of course it is a challenge
“Of course it is a challenge to arrange everything in this short term and to make good agreements with operators, entrepreneurs, the market and emergency services,” said Janssen. “Visitors to the fair must also take safety measures into account.
