From superstars to young stars, a handful of action films are releasing in Malayalam cinema this year. Malayalam movies are getting good reception from other states and countries. The films of big stars like Dileep, Dulquer Salmaan, Prithviraj, Tovino Thomas and Kunchacko Boban will hit the theaters as pan-Indian films in various languages this time. Action thrillers are coming to Malayalam cinema after a long time. In recent years, realistic films have gained a place, so with the arrival of action thrillers, the audience will get a different experience. Films ranging from Dileep’s ‘Bandra’ to Shane Nigam’s power action film ‘RDX’ are being prepared at the pan-Indian level.
Bandra is Dileep’s film which is scheduled to release in the month of April. Directed by Arun Gopi after the blockbuster success of 2017’s Ramaleela, the film is set to be a big budget action thriller. This is also Dileep’s 147th film. The film stars South Indian actress Tamannaah as the female lead and stars Tamil actor Sarath Kumar, Bollywood actor Dino Morea, Bollywood actor and model Rajveer Ankur Singh, Tamil actor VTV Ganesh, Siddique and Lena in the film. The shooting is mainly done in Mumbai. Udayakrishna, who has given many super hits, is preparing the screenplay for the film. The film is produced by Vinayaka Ajith under the banner of Ajith Vinayaka Films.
Ajayant’s Second Moshanam marks Tovino Thomas’ first triple role as a periodic entertainer who travels through three eras. The film will be released in 3D on a pan-India scale in six languages. Telugu actress Kriti Shetty is also making her debut in Malayalam. Aishwarya Rajesh and Surabhi Lakshmi are also coming as other heroines. The film is directed by Jitin Lal. Tovino appears in the film as three different characters of the 1900s, 1950s and 1990s as Maniyan, Kunjikelu and Ajayan. The film also stars Tamil actor Sathyaraj, Basil Joseph and Jagadish in lead roles. Produced by Dr. Zakaria Thomas and Listyn Stephen. Chaveer is a political thriller starring Kunchacko Boban. Antony Varghese and Arjun Ashokan will also be seen in the lead roles in the film directed by Tinu Pappachan, after the films ‘Sabbarada Ardharathriil’ and ‘Ajagajantaram’. Director and actor Joy Mathew is writing the script of the film. Arun Narayan and Venu Kunnappilly’s film will release soon.
Dulquer Salmaan’s action thriller King of Kotha is all set to release in theaters during Onam this year. The film starts from the olden days and tells the story in two periods. The film is directed by Abhilash Joshi, son of Malayalam hit maker Joshi. Aishwarya Lakshmi is the heroine in the film. King of Kotta is the highest budget film of Dulquer’s career. Pan Indian release is planned in five languages like Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada. RDX is a power action film starring Shine Nigam, Antony Varghese and Neeraj Madhav. After the success of Minnal Murali, the film is being produced by Sophia Paul under the banner of Weekend Stock Buster. The film tells the story of three friends named Robert, Donnie and Xavier. The film is directed by debutant Nahas Hidayat. It is a Pan Indian film with a huge budget. The film stars Aima Rosmi and Mahima Nambiar as heroines. The screenplay has been written by Shabaz Rasheed and Adarsh Sukumaran. Recently Prithviraj’s ‘Kadva’ and ‘Kappa’ were taken by the audience as action thrillers in the old fashioned format.
