Next to them, a person is just a ‘squishy’ – giant trees in California

Back is amazing. Sometimes it takes your breath away, not because of its indescribable beauty, but because of its scope, and you ask yourself the question – how does something like this exist so little? Such or similar questions certainly arise when facing the giants of nature – giant sequoia trees – for the first time.

Giant sequoias, or mammoth trees, are among the largest and oldest trees in the world. Thanks to the tannin in the bark, which protects against rot, insects and even fire, they can grow for more than three thousand years. Massive trees can grow from 54 to 76 meters.

Currently, Sequoia National Park is home to the tallest and perhaps most famous tree in the world, named General Sherman. Its diameter is 11 meters (at the ground – 31 meters), height – 84 meters. The approximate age is estimated at 2300-2700 years, weight – 2100 tons. General Sherman grows up in the Giant Forest, home to five of the ten largest trees in the world.

Every year, Sequoia National Park is visited by about a million people who want to see the majestic giants with their own eyes.

Giant sequoias grow only on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada in California, and while Sequoia National Park is not the only place to admire these giants, it is the oldest national park with such a large scale of sequoia habitat. The park was created in 1890 to protect the unique trees from logging (their wood is very valuable).
