Next season, a complete ban on fluoride: Winter sports

During this week’s World Cup competition in Tallinn, Estonia, equal waxing was tested for all nations, where the nations had to also use fluoride-free waxing.

Now the international skiing federation, Fis, announces that they will ban fluorine wax until next season. They will carry out tests to ensure that the skis are fluoride-free at major competitions, such as the WC, World Cup and Junior WC.

– We are happy that we are now fully introducing the fluoride ban at our major competitions, says Fi’s vice-president Roman Kumpost in a press release and continues:

– This is an important step to guarantee the integrity of the competitions and minimize the effects of the product’s negative health and environmental effects, he says.

Fis announced last year that the fluoride ban would come into force this season, but in August it was postponed. Before that, it had already been postponed from the 2020/2021 season.

The reason why they want to introduce a ban on fluorinated wax is that the chemicals found in the wax can be dangerous for both people and nature.
