Next OnePlus smartphone gets 120Hz screen – update – Tablets and phones – News

The next smartphone from OnePlus will get a screen with a refresh rate of 120Hz. The company has announced this. The current 7T and 7T Pro have a 90Hz screen. Samsung produces the OLED screens for OnePlus.

OnePlus also adds a memc chip to the coming phone, says CEO Pete Lau in conversation with The Verge. Memc stands for motion estimation / motion compensation. The chip must add extra frames to videos in order to be able to display them at 120Hz. The phone has no variable refresh rate, although users can switch it back to 60Hz. The operation of the memc chip can also be switched off.

The OLED screen has a maximum brightness of 1000 candelas per square meter and supports HDR. The phone processes touch input at 240Hz. Further details of the screen, including the resolution, were not disclosed by OnePlus.

The image OnePlus sent to The Verge also shows the mechanism for a pop-up camera. On earlier renders of the OnePlus 8 telephones a screen with a hole can be seen, which makes a pop-up camera unnecessary. OnePlus also left one earlier dummy of the suspected OnePlus 8 Lite with notch in the screen.

The manufacturer works with Samsung on the screens. OnePlus purchases components together with Oppo, Realme and Vivo, among others. It is obvious that in the near future those manufacturers will also release smartphones with approximately the same screen. OnePlus presented the Concept One. It does not have a 120Hz screen. It is unknown when the Chinese manufacturer wants to release its first smartphone with a 120Hz screen.

Update, 14:15: OnePlus confirms by email that the resolution is 1440p. The manufacturer now also has one put your own story about the screen online.
