Day 6 of Free Agency 2022 saw us hit a snag when it came to bigger deals. But the next quarterback got a mega deal. In addition, several top performers from various teams were given new contracts.
NFL Free Agency: The recap of Day 6
Matthew Stafford signs contract extension with Los Angeles Rams: Stafford and the Rams have agreed on a new contract that will keep the quarterback in Los Angeles until 2026. The extension is for four years and $160 million. Of these, 135 million are guaranteed.
Together with his upcoming salary for the 2022 season, the final year of his original contract, Stafford will earn a total of $183 million over the next five years.
Las Vegas Raiders and Derek Carr start negotiations: With Stafford now on a long-term commitment, it’s Derek Carr’s turn to sign a new deal. Like Stafford, Carr is also entering his final year of contract and, according to several media reports, has started negotiations for an extension with the Las Vegas Raiders.
No deal is yet to be seen, but it is expected that Carr could land a new deal in the $40 million average range, after Dak Prescott and Stafford are already earning in the space.
Philadelphia Eagles hold Fletcher Cox: Just a few days ago, the Eagles fired defensive tackle Fletcher Cox for cap reasons. But even then it was clear that the franchise would like to keep their first-round pick in the 2012 draft. Now they both agreed on exactly that.
Cox signed a one-year contract and will earn $14 million next season.

Cordarrelle Patterson stays in Atlanta: All-purpose weapon Cordarrelle Patterson stays with the Falcons. Both sides agreed to a new two-year contract worth a total of $10.5 million. Patterson had career highs in touches (205), scrimmage yards (1,166), and touchdowns (11) last season and played both running back and wide receiver.
Green Bay Packers hold Rasul Douglas: The Green Bay Packers have agreed to a new three-year contract with cornerback Rasul Douglas. That leaves him $21 million, but performance bonuses can increase that value to $25 million.
Douglas had his best NFL season to date in his freshman season in Green Bay, catching 5 interceptions with 2 carried back to touchdowns. In addition, he only allowed a passer rating of 44.5 for passes in his direction.
With Douglas, Eric Stokes and Jaire Alexander, the Packers now have one of the best cornerback trios in the NFL for years to come.
Cleveland Browns tauschen Quarterbacks: Deshaun Watson is the new starter for the Cleveland Browns, we already knew that beforehand. But now they cleaned up the backup position. First, they traded Case Keenum to the Buffalo Bills for a seventh-round pick. Those had lost Mitch Trubisky to the Pittsburgh Steelers. And then the Browns signed Jacoby Brissett, who previously played for the Patriots, Colts and Dolphins.
Curious: On Friday the Browns Keenum had paid out a roster bonus of one million dollars.
Free Agency Outlook: Who’s Still Available?
It was also remarkable that none of the remaining top free agents signed anywhere on Saturday. All we’ve heard is that La’el Collins is visiting the Cincinnati Bengals but hasn’t signed a deal yet. The Dolphins should also be interested.
Trent Brown also visited the Seattle Seahawks, but is still available.
