Next corona easing in New York may be restricted | 06/29/20

NEW YORK (dpa-AFX) – The next phase of the corona easing in the metropolis of New York may only come into force to a limited extent. The regulations for the interior areas of restaurants, cafes and bars need to be checked again, said Mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo on Monday and announced a decision by Wednesday.

At the moment, only the outside areas of restaurants are allowed to open in New York, inside you can only order and collect. That should actually change with the start of the third phase of easing next Monday. However, he was concerned about data on the infection rate from other US states, said Governor Cuomo. “That’s a real problem.”

Cuomo also criticized the fact that many New Yorkers did not adhere to the rules of distance. “You can see the crowds in front of the bars, you can see the crowds on the street corners. There’s no denying that.” The increasing number of infections in many other states and possible transmissions to New York also worried him, according to Cuomo.

The state of New York with around 19 million inhabitants was badly hit by the coronavirus pandemic. More than 390,000 people have been infected with the virus to date, and around 30,000 have died after being infected. The number of cases has dropped significantly in recent weeks following strict restrictions and hygiene rules.

The metropolis of New York is currently in the second phase of the four-phase easing. Each phase should last two weeks. In the second phase, hairdressers, offices and outdoor areas of restaurants were allowed to reopen. / Cah / DP / fba
