Pokémon fans have been dissatisfied with the franchise’s transition to 3D for years, as many feel that this has caused the quality of the graphics to drop exponentially. While Scarlet & Purple was criticized for its numerous bugs & glitches, Legends Arceus was very well received and many believe that it should have been the basis for all future installments. Now, a talented artist took this idea and made it a reality.
This is what the next 3D Pokémon game should look like!
George K. is a conceptual artist and art director from Amsterdam who just shared this interesting concept on Behance. He explains that he really liked the direction that Nintendo and Game Freak took in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, so he used that same concept to design a video game that takes place in the present. The final result looks simply beautiful, as we can see Coach Red next to Pikachu already Eeveeexploring huge fields filled with creatures, such as Snorlax, Fearow, Lactating and many more.
Legends Arceus is considered one of the best modern installments of the franchise and many people were disappointed that Scarlet & Purple did not use the same formula or graphic style. George K. did just this and designed what seems to be the perfect sequel to Legends Arceus, only it’s set in the region of Kanto, which is inhabited by iconic Pokémon from the First Generation. We also got to see some great ideas for gameplay mechanics, like riding a Lapras to cross bodies of water or Fearow to explore from the air.
The combat system also appears to be based on that of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, giving the player the ability to move freely around the battlefield, and reusing the mechanics of Quick Style y Strong Style which made the action of that title so dynamic. This concept looks really amazing because it combines the best elements of Legends Arceus with the best elements of Red Blue to create a truly special experience that any fan could enjoy.
On Behance, George K. explained in detail why he built this project: «Playing Legends Arceus, I remembered how we fantasized as children about how cool it would be if future Pokémon games let you do everything you see in the anime. It would be a game that gives you unlimited possibilities when exploring this world. So, that’s why I had this idea to create this project that would showcase the Pokémon game of my dreams. For this project, I tried very hard to follow the original aesthetics and atmosphere of the world of the franchise.”. And we can say that it turned out quite well, because this looks like an official video game.
It should be noted that these are just images that simulate the concept thought up by George K. and that he is not interested in turning all this into a video game (After all, he could have a lot of legal problems with Nintendo) But we can’t help but wish that the next Pokémon video game looks like this and doesn’t make the same mistakes we saw in Scarlet & Purple.
