Newsweek Reports: F-16 Fighter Jets Likely Already in Ukraine, UK Completes Pilot Training

The first F-16 fighter jets promised to Kiev by its Western allies may already be in Ukraine, Newsweek reported, citing its source. According to him, the probability that the fighters are already in service with the Ukrainian armed forces is quite high.

Ukraine has long been waiting for its Western allies to hand over F-16s. However, the West emphasizes the impossibility of supplying Kiev with such aircraft without proper preliminary training of pilots and ground service personnel. On Tuesday, the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom announced that the first pilots from the Armed Forces of Ukraine (Air Force) have completed the basic flight training course for F-16 fighters organized by the British Air Force.

At the end of August, the Netherlands announced its readiness to transfer 42 American F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine, Denmark promised Kiev 19 such aircraft. The US authorities approved this step. Kiev expressed hope that Ukraine will receive combat aircraft in the first half of 2024. In turn, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said that this would happen no earlier than spring.
