Newspaper Mail | Show arrives in Salvador addressing racism and motherhood

The show Nobody Knows My Name, which has been touring the stages of Brazil, arrives in Salvador for a free performance on the 28th, 29th and 30th of July. Conceived and staged by actress Ana Carbatti, the monologue reflects on society’s tacit racist codes, its impasses, impacts and possible proposals for repair. With text by Ana Carbatti and dramaturgy by Mônica Santana, directed by Inez Viana and Isabel Cavalcanti, the show takes place within the programming of the Casa Mulher com a Palavra project. Admission is subject to space capacity and presentation of the ticket available at the Sympla.

In an intimate conversation with the audience, Ana Carbatti plays Iara, a middle-aged black mother who wonders how she should educate her son to face a society that does not recognize him as an equal. On stage, the actress nominated for the Shell Award and APTR for her role, multiplies herself in many voices and bodies, whose expressions are the premises of the project.

“From reflection to entertainment, provoking engagement and empathy, we distinguish between the black problem and the white problem. Iara just wants to be sure that her son will reach adulthood and become an ordinary and respected citizen. Her anguish epitomizes that of millions of mothers in Brazil and around the world”, highlights the actress, known to the general public for several roles played in cinema and television.
