After five months of waiting, Raul Gustavo returned to play an official match for Bahia. He entered the second half of the 0-0 draw with São Paulo, at Morumbi, last Sunday (30).
Raul underwent knee ligament surgery after being injured during training in February. In early July, the defender was listed again, but only now has he received his first chance.
“I was very happy to go through what I went through. Happy to be back, doing what I love to do most. The new role was a game plan from the manager, I had trained for it. I was able to make the most of it. The result was not what I wanted, but I was happy to play again”, he said during an interview at Cidade Tricolor.
Against São Paulo, Raul Gustavo played in a different position. He was cast as a midfielder and given the mission to participate in offensive construction.
In the trainings we have been training a little of this. I play my role as a defender, but if I needed to play as a defensive midfielder, I would be ready. He has been testing, I feel good. I said it was a new function, I would need time, teaching to be able to perform it. But I was prepared to do as he asked. I felt good too. If he needs it, I’ll do it,” he explained.
Despite the joy of returning to the pitch, Raul Gustavo knows that Bahia’s moment is delicate. The team has only won one of its last 17 games. In the Brasileirão, the fast is six matches and the reflection appears in the classification. The team is in 17th place, within the relegation zone.
“Of course, we are very dissatisfied with the results. Some games we are playing well, but we are not getting the triumphs. We are fighting day by day in training and games to win again. It is clear that we demand a lot. a little more luck within the games to win again”, he concluded.
