Newspaper Mail | Former president José Sarney falls at home and is hospitalized

Former President of the Republic José Sarney, 93, was hospitalized this Sunday, 16, in Maranhão after suffering a domestic accident. The information was shared on social media by his daughter, former Maranhão governor and federal deputy, Roseana Sarney (MDB-MA).

“This morning, we had a really big scare. My father tripped and fell. We took him to the hospital, but thank God the exams have already been completed and he’s doing very well. God willing, he’ll be fine very soon. “, said Roseana in a video posted on Instagram.

Sarney reached the Presidency in the 1985 elections, when he was runner-up on the ticket led by Tancredo Neves. They emerged victorious, but Tancredo died before taking office. Sarney ended up taking over the Planalto. After leaving the Federal Executive, Sarney was elected to the Senate, where he served as President of the House for three terms.
