The Anti-Rabies Vaccination Campaign in Salvador also now has a drive-thru and fixed points in shopping malls to operate exclusively on weekends, starting this Saturday (5th) and Sunday (6th). The mobilization of the Municipal Health Secretariat (SMS) will also involve a higher education institution and itinerant points in various parts of the capital of Bahia.

Until Thursday (3) more than 12 thousand animals were immunized against rabies. “The expectation is to considerably expand protection for dogs and cats with the initiative on weekends, as it facilitates access for people who, for some reason, have difficulty taking their animals during working days. For this moment, we invest in partnerships with commercial places of great circulation, so that the tutor can go for a walk or solve his pending issues and at the same time, take care of the health of his four-legged angel”, highlights the deputy mayor and holder of the SMS, Ana Paula Matos.

This weekend, the drive-thru will be at UNIFTC, on Avenida Paralela, from 9 am to 4 pm. There will be a fixed point at Shopping Barra, open on Saturday (5th), from 9am to 4pm and on Sunday (6th), from 12pm to 5pm. Teams with endemic disease agents will be on standby in locations in the health districts of Cabula/Beirú; Liberdade and Subúrbio, from 9am to 4pm. The complete list can be found on the website. http://www.saude.salvador.ba.gov.br/ e instagram @smssalvador.

They should be immunized from three months of age, except those who are sick. The goal of the strategy is to vaccinate 249,000 dogs and cats in the city. The last case of human rabies in Salvador was registered in 2004.

“Vaccination is the main measure to prevent rabies, which is a zoonosis with almost 100% lethality. That’s why it’s important that the population look for the posts. In recent years, Salvador has registered confirmed cases of rabies in bats, so pet dogs and cats are vulnerable to contact,” explains Danielle Dantas, head of the Rabies and Veterinary Sector at the Zoonoses Control Center (CCZ).

Guidelines for tutors in the Drive-Thru system

Guardians must take their animals inside the car, with a collar and leash, or in appropriate boxes to avoid escapes and accidents.

Ideally, in addition to the driver of the vehicle, there should be someone to contain the animal during vaccination.

Animals must not be vaccinated through the window, with the passenger or back door open for immunization.

Vaccination of large dogs must be carried out outside the vehicle for the safety of the vaccinator and owner. For these animals, it is advisable to use a muzzle.

Started on the 31st, the Anti-Rabies Vaccination Campaign also has a schedule from Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 2 pm, in 100 vaccine rooms with the offer of the dose; itinerant points with pairs of endemic disease agents traveling the streets of the 12 Health Districts and fixed points in places of great circulation to expand the immunization.

The complete list of locations is available on the website saude.salvador.ba.gov.br and on the social networks of the City Hall of Salvador, in addition to the Fala Salvador 156 channel and by calling the CCZ, at (71) 3611-7331, where it will be possible to also clear doubts.
