News, Weather | The weather will be awful next week

We have put behind us a very wet weekend. On Sunday, 62.1 millimeters of rain fell in Florida, and it flooded a number of places in Bergen.

On Monday, the meteorologist reports that the low pressure that brought all the rain to Bergen has finished. But it is replaced by another low pressure, and another low pressure after that…

– We will get a new low pressure on Tuesday, yes, which gives opportunities for sleet and snow first thing in the day. Both Monday and Tuesday until the end of the day, the snow limit will be between 0 and 200 metres, says state meteorologist at Vervarslinga in Western Norway, Magni Svanevik, to BA.

Half a meter of snow

It is white on Ulriken on Monday, and if it snows on Tuesday, it will not stay long in the lowlands.

– It quickly changes to warmer air again, on Tuesday afternoon the showers change to rain and hail. There are quite heavy showers coming, and there may also be lightning and thunder. In addition, there will be strong westerly winds with stiff gales on the coast, Svanevik explains.

At high altitude, there can be a lot of snow in the mountains.

– During the next week, there may be as much as 50-100 centimeters of snow at altitude.

On Tuesday, the snow line will rise to 400-600 metres.

A small point of light

Wednesday continues with a new low pressure that brings shower activity.

– There is some uncertainty related to where the low pressure hits. As it stands today, it won’t hit us in the middle, and then we can escape the worst. But where it hits, there will be heavy showers and strong winds, says Svanevik.

A small bright spot in the wet week we have just started on will hopefully be Thursday.

– Then it seems that there will be a short break from all the wet. There will be falling temperatures, less wind, stays and the possibility of some sun, says the meteorologist.

But the joy will be short-lived, because on Friday a new low pressure will come in, giving another wet weekend.

– Temperatures will drop slightly on Tuesday to just above zero, and there is a risk of night frost in exposed places. On Wednesday it rises to four to six degrees, before it gets colder on Thursday. Then it could be minus degrees, before it rises to six or seven degrees at the weekend, says Svanevik to BA.
