The alarm went off on Monday, both at the Meteorological Institute, in Facebook groups for photo enthusiasts and among the people of Bergen: Clear weather and a high chance of northern lights were forecast for Monday.
And it has worked.
From around 2200, the images have been arriving at BA.
Bergen from all kinds of angles, illuminated by this mysterious, greenish light.

– You don’t see people in Tromsø gathering like this
At Nordnes, Bergens had gathered in droves to catch the rare moment. Someone has lit a fire to keep warm and the atmosphere seems to be at its best.
– You don’t see people in Tromsø gather like this when it’s the Northern Lights, says Adrian Langseth Solheim to BA.
Together with his friends Simen Warhaug Knudsen and Justus Sagemüllea, the Tromsøværing has cycled from Kronstad to get a better view. Because while Solheim can be considered a Northern Lights veteran, Warhaug, who comes from Stavanger, has never seen it before.
– But we actually saw it better outside the door in Kronstad than here, chuckles Solheim.
Haven’t seen anything like this since 1991
At Laksevåg, a couple of people with a penchant for spectacle have also gathered.
Cristina Giurgiucanu has traveled from Straume to catch the weather phenomenon.
– It wasn’t very nice when we were at Straume instead, so we drove in here. But now there is perhaps just as much there, says Giurgiucanu.
It’s been a long time since she’s seen so many northern lights. In fact, all the way back to a day at Straume in 1991, she states.
– For me, the northern lights mean a lot. I love all such phenomena. It doesn’t happen all the time, it doesn’t happen everywhere. I think it’s absolutely great.
– You cannot be impatient
Photographer John Vint has also set up down by the water’s edge at Laksevåg. When BA makes contact, the northern lights are just about to become more and more visible.
Vint is clear in his speech: he will probably stay down here at the wharf for a few more hours.
– I’ll probably stay here for a couple more hours, you can’t be impatient, says Vint.
