The United States Department of State has announced that it is offering a reward of up to $ 10 million for any information leading to the identification or location of the leaders of the REvil hacker group.
The United States accuses this group of having carried out numerous cyber attacks on their territory. The targets of these attacks are primarily businesses, targeted by ransomware software – software that encrypts data and demands payment to make it accessible again.
The FBI is mainly looking for Yevgyeniy Igoryevich Polyanin, one of the most prominent members of REvil, a group also known as Sodinokibi. An IBM report pointed out that REvil was the most active group, responsible for 22% of ransomware attacks.
