News studio – Denmark: – 2.5 million Danes receive booster vaccine

Wednesday morning at 10 am, the Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen convenes a press conference on corona.

It has been a while since last, but after the infection has taken hold in the country in recent weeks, with the sub-variant of omikron BA 5, the Danish government chooses to inform citizens about the corona strategy for the coming months.

Before the press conference, the Danish newspaper experiences B.T. that all Danes over the age of 50 will be offered another booster vaccine from 1 October. They also experience that people who work in nursing homes will be offered a booster dose in mid-September.

BT experiences this from sources who are aware of the contingency plans, which will be presented at the press conference at 10 am.

– It has been a long time since we have held a press conference about corona, fortunately.

This is how Mette Frederiksen starts the press conference.

She states that the infection has been rising at BA 5 in the last three weeks in the country. It is also now dominant in Denmark.

– We want to protect you who are vulnerable or elderly. Therefore, we have decided that you can be revaccinated before the summer holidays. This will apply from next week, says the Prime Minister.

Furthermore, she states that the four goals of the Danish corona strategies are to protect the elderly and vulnerable, to prevent the hospitals from being overloaded, to maintain the national economy and to avoid closures and restrictions.

She emphasizes that the most important tool for fighting the virus is the vaccines. But she points out that immunity is gradually declining, and that Danes therefore expect an increasing infection during the autumn.

– Therefore, the health authorities have decided that 2.5 million Danes will be offered a booster dose. First, there are the very oldest from September 15th. After those over 50, they will be offered a booster dose from October 1, she says.
