News – SC Magdeburg Handball

Magdeburg loses its home game in the Machineseeker EHF Champions League against HBC Nantes 28:32 (16:15). The SCM’s top scorer was Omar Ingi Magnusson with seven goals.

Matchday number five of Group B in the Machineseeker EHF Champions League and SC Magdeburg wanted to get its second home win of this premier class season. The French Cup winner HBC Nantes was a guest. The French beat Kielce (23:20), narrowly lost in Szeged (33:32) and won big last week against Kolstad (44:27). And they went into the away game in the GETEC Arena just as motivated and with a big chest. Magdeburg’s chest was no less broad after the sensational away win in Flensburg.

Philipp Weber, who was once again strong, gave Magdeburg its first lead with a brace to make it 2-1 (2nd & 3rd minute of the game). The HBC played along cheerfully and quickly turned the game to 4:6 through Baptiste Bonnefond (11th). Magdeburg attacked again and got a deserved equalizer through Gisli Kristjansson in the 17th minute. It continued on a knife’s edge and in the final seconds of the first round the SCM came up with a fantastic final word, which resulted in Gisli making it 16:15.

After the break, Magdeburg stayed in front until 18:17 (35th) through Omar Ingi Magnusson before the wind changed. For the benefit of guests from France. Within five minutes, Nantes raced to 18:22 (42nd). Magdeburg had to shake itself off and tried everything to get the game back into its own hands. When the score was 20:25 (48th), coach Bennet Wiegert brought his team together again and switched to a more offensive 3:3 defense.

But it was all of no use as HBC goalkeeper Ivan Pesic outgrew himself in goal and took important balls from the SCM. In the end there is a 28:32 defeat. SC Magdeburg’s next game in the Champions League is next week at FC Barcelona.

And on Sunday (4 p.m.) the SCM welcomes the SC DHfK Leipzig in the DAIKIN HBL. We are counting on you!
