On Friday, the Ukrainian flag will be raised at the old town hall in Bergen.
The flag is raised to show solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people after their country was invaded by Vladimir Putin’s Russia.
– Many people from Ukraine live in Bergen, and many have family there. This is a heavy and painful time for them. It is also a dark day for Europe, says city councilor Roger Valhammer (Labor).
The flag is raised at 0900.
– Dark day
Both the city council leader and mayor Rune Bakervik describe Russia’s attack on Ukraine as an unjustified, unprovoked and irresponsible violation of international law.
– I want all Ukrainians in Bergen, everyone of Ukrainian origin or with family in Ukraine to know that we are behind you. We strongly condemn Russia’s acts of war, says Mayor Rune Bakervik.
– It is a strong and important declaration of sympathy for the Ukrainian people. This is a dark day, and Russia’s unprovoked invasion is absolutely shocking, says Bergen Conservative leader Eivind Nævdal-Bolstad.
He was also out on Thursday and spoke for such a flag marking.
– I think it is very good that Bergen follows cities around the world, which now choose to hoist the Ukrainian flag, says Nævdal-Bolstad.
Offers help
The mayor and the city council leader remind that Bergen has resources available for psychosocial follow-up for those who experience a life crisis or a difficult situation in connection with the situation in Ukraine.
The life crisis help at the Bergen emergency room is Bergen municipality’s offer to people in acute life crises.
The service is free, and for everyone who is in Bergen. You do not need an appointment, but feel free to call 55 56 87 54 in advance. You can also show up directly if you wish.
The life crisis center is located in the same building as the Bergen emergency room in Solheimsgaten 9, and is open from 0830 to 2230 on weekdays, and from 1200 to 2030 on weekends.
