Moscow wants to get from the United States “written warranties” that the economic sanctions imposed on Russia since its invasion of Ukraine “will not prevent its extensive commercial cooperation with Tehran” in the new version of the pact. The new Russian demands were made by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Saturday, just as Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (AIEA) had agreed on a mechanism to resolve the remaining outstanding issues, paving the way for a global agreement.
Burkina Faso: the junta appoints a new government. A government of 25 ministers was appointed on Saturday by Lieutenant-Colonel Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba to lead Burkina Faso during the transition. General Barthélémy Simporé was appointed Minister of Defence, a position he already held under the presidency of Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, overthrown in January by Lieutenant-Colonel Damiba, remark US News and World Report. The government has six women, including Olivia Rouamba, appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Prime Minister, economist Albert Ouedraogo, was appointed on Thursday. The junta has set a three-year transition period before the return to constitutional order.
Russia gets its expelled diplomats backHIM-HER-IT. In the midst of the global crisis over Ukraine, a Russian plane landed in Washington on Saturday to repatriate the 13 United Nations diplomats expelled by the United States for “spying”. “President Joe Biden had announced in his State of the Union address on Tuesday that US airspace would now be off limits to Russian aircraft, but the US government has made an exception so deported Russians can return home.”, Explain Politico. Washington accuses the 13 diplomats of having “abused” of their diplomatic status in “engaging in espionage activities”. The Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, had denounced “a hostile move” against his country.
