News – NHL close to agreement to resume play

The NHL and the NHL Players’ Association (NHLPA) have reached an agreement in principle on a protocol that would extend the collective agreement by four years, until the end of the 2025-26 season. He would also establish the protocols for Phases 3 and 4 of the NHL’s return to play plan, the two sides announced.

The teams’ home training camps would launch the opening of Phase 3 of the resumption of activities plan as of July 13. The teams will then travel to two host cities on July 26 where Phase 4 will take place, the resumption of matches, while the Stanley Cup qualifying round will begin on August 1.

However, the extension of the collective agreement and the protocols for Phases 3 and 4 are conditional on the approval of the NHL Board of Governors and NHLPA members, which should be done within the next three to five days.

The current collective agreement, approved in January 2013, was due to expire on September 15, 2022. With this extension, the collective agreement will now be valid until September 15, 2026.

This agreement will make it possible to plan a calendar of various events, including the NHL All-Star Game, the Winter Classic and the Stadium Series.

According to the network “TSN“, following this agreement, the players of the league will officially have the right to participate in the Olympic Games of 2022 and 2026 and the minimum wage would drop from USD 700,000.- to USD 800,000.- by the season 2025- 2026, that is, by the end of the new agreement.
