News, Landslides | Vulnerable residential areas

According to the Office of the Auditor General, the authorities in Norway do not have a good enough overview of where there may be more floods and landslides in the years ahead. This is stated in the Office of the Auditor General’s audit report on the work on climate adaptation.

The consequences of the lack of knowledge may be that we do not know which buildings are to be secured, and that new homes are being built in vulnerable areas, the Office of the Auditor General writes.

– This is serious, and it can affect people’s safety, says Auditor General Karl Eirik Schjøtt-Pedersen.

He believes that the existing buildings and infrastructure in Norway have not been mapped well enough either. Today, for example, around 191,000 buildings are located within mapped danger areas for floods, landslides, quick clay landslides and storm surges. With climate change, this number can increase significantly.
