News | Label: Aix hospital committed to environmental health

The Intercommunal Hospital Center of Aix-en-Provence has just been labeled THQSE (Very high social and environmental health quality), this year and becomes the first in Bouches-du-Rhône and the 8th in France. A label which rewards the hospital’s commitment to environmental health and which has very concrete strategic impacts internally as well as on the territory.

If Chiap has obtained this label, it is thanks to the commitment of many teams to health and environment issues. Because this implies the recognition of a policy of sustainable development as well as the increase in the level of requirement of the hospital vis-à-vis the suppliers, where the latter represents a major buyer in terms of equipment. They therefore hope to change general demand by weighing on suppliers. The establishment is joined by other hospitals and will be able to coordinate in order to establish a general line of action more concerned with the environment.

This label is divided into four areas: economic, environmental, societal and social. This involves the use of eco-responsible care products, as well as the diversification of sorting channels, but also the establishment of gardens and green spaces for professionals and users as well as the commitment of Chiap in respect for the quality of life at work.

With this label, the hospital wishes to place the ecological theme at the heart of its concerns. “It is not because we treat that we do not have to worry about the repercussions on the environment”, confides Carole Festa, director of quality, users, research and communication and referent in health-environment. In addition, she recalls that environmental problems tend to have repercussions on health: “it is therefore necessary to be concerned about it from the start, it allows to anticipate care”.
