Nine people at Skjåkheimen have been confirmed infected after taking quick tests on Friday night. The route of infection is unknown.
–
It was a local newspaper Fjuken who first reported the news.
On Friday, a case of infection with an unknown route of infection was first discovered at the nursing home. This led to large-scale rapid testing of both employees and residents. Among these, another eight tests were positive.
– All nine who were infected are put in isolation and followed up. Both the infected and everyone who has been tested have been fully vaccinated, says municipal chief Sondre Bøye to GD.
– Unknown route of transmission
He says that the vaccination rate has been very good.
– There is probably little risk of serious disease outbreaks. All patients are followed up, and it seems to be going well so far, although it is always difficult to know.
According to Bøye, all the people who have had patient contact recently have also been fully vaccinated, as far as they have an overview of at present.
– It is completely unknown to us how the infection has entered Skjåkheimen.
However, reopening the community, in combination with less testing and many fully vaccinated (who get fewer symptoms) can make it difficult to follow the pathways of infection one hundred percent.
Testing for symptoms and close contacts (this weekend):
The municipality requests that everyone with symptoms of a respiratory infection report for testing and otherwise stay home. In addition, it is requested that close contacts to known cases of infection be tested.
There will be testing at Skjåk doctor’s office on Saturday 23 October between 10:00 and 13:00.
Contact the doctor’s office on telephone 61 21 71 00 to make an appointment.

Strict infection control measures
On Saturday, further testing and infection tracking will be carried out.
– We are not surprised if there are more cases over the weekend, but as of now we do not know of infection elsewhere in the municipality.
At Skjåkheimen, all patients will be affected by the outbreak.
– There will be strict infection control measures with a meter rule and a mouthpiece.
With the exception of relatives of dying patients, the home will also be closed to visitors until further notice. All employees must also take a quick test before they go on duty through the weekend.
– An outbreak in a nursing home is never lucky. And that is why we have launched a number of strong measures. But I have a hope that the outbreak will have small consequences in terms of life and health.
As a result of the outbreak, the municipality has chosen to encourage residents to avoid events and gatherings in the near future. The municipal superintendent emphasizes that this is a call to wait with things that can be postponed and not any regulations.
