As searches continue in northern Quebec for the five people who went missing Tuesday night in a snowmobile accident, we know the identity of one of the three Vosgiens who is among those wanted. It’s about Bassurois Gilles Claude. This 58-year-old carpenter, passionate about speed and open spaces, is a regular at stays in Canada. He is also the father of three international biathletes Emilien, Fabien and Florent who are the pride of the Vosges mountains on the international scene.

Research continues
At the time of his disappearance, he was among a group of eight people, three Vosges and five Alsatians, and their guide. The ice broke under the weight of the gear. Three of the Alsatian tourists managed to get out of the water, but the other five did not. The guide died on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday. In addition to Gilles Claude, the missing persons are two men from Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines aged 24 and 34 and two Vosgiens aged 24 and 25.
Research is continuing in the area of Beemer Island where the accident occurred. The area is difficult to access since one of the Sûreté du Québec helicopters that was conducting the search crashed into the water on Wednesday. Alone on board, the pilot would have been injured but his life is not in danger.
