News | In the United States, Amazon’s Alexa offers a child to touch an electrical outlet with a coin

It was Boxing Day that could have been dramatic for an American family when Alexa, Amazon’s voice assistant, asked a ten-year-old girl to touch the plugs of an electrical outlet with a coin. The mother of the child warned of the incident on Twitter.

Her daughter asked Alexa for a “challenge” and the connected speaker offered her the “penny challenge”, which runs on social networks. The concept, as shown in the mother’s screenshot: half-push a charger into a socket and then take a part in her fingers that touches the plugs of the socket. A dangerous challenge, carried out to create sparks but which can especially cause an electric shock or a short circuit.

According to the BBC recounting the story, Amazon claimed to have corrected the mistake that led to this bad advice.
